Historic Neighborhoods Meeting November 14

Wilton Certified Local Government Commission (WCLGC) has been working on a designation as National Historic Neighborhoods for areas around Maurer Street and around Fifth and Sixth Streets.

WCLGC will hold a public meeting Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the Wilton Public Library, with Ray Werner, a historian from Tallgrass Archaeology. Everyone is invited, especially homeowners, members of the public who would like to volunteer with the project, and anyone interested in historic houses.

Some of the topics covered will be: an overview of research conducted by Tallgrass staff to date; setting a date for photography of the buildings—volunteers would be welcome to join/assist; and Tallgrass’ plan and schedule for completing the survey through the winter and the first draft of their report.

Please call Wilton Chamber & Development Alliance at 563-732-5002 with any questions. The WCLGC was established in 2017 to support, promote and identify historic districts, sites and buildings in our community. The current project is funded through a Historic Resource Development Program Grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa.
